§ 2.12. Date of inauguration of newly elected officials.

(a)

The term of office of newly elected officials shall commence on the first Monday in May following the general municipal election, at a regular City Council meeting. Newly elected officials shall be sworn in at this first regular meeting of the City Council in May.

(b)

No special meeting of the City Council shall be called between the third Monday of April and the first Monday of May following a general municipal election.

(c)

The City Council shall only fix, increase, or decrease compensation of elected officials pursuant to the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/3.1-50-5) and the Local Government Officer Compensation Act (50 ILCS 142/5).
