§ 51.31. Railroads, obstruction of street at grade crossing.

  • It is unlawful for a railroad corporation to permit any train, railroad car or engine or gate to remain closed so as to obstruct public travel at a railroad-street grade crossing for a period in excess of 10 minutes, except where such train, railroad car or engine cannot be moved or gate opened by reason of circumstances over which the railroad corporation has no control.

    It is unlawful for any railroad employee to willfully or intentionally permit any train, railroad car or engine to obstruct public travel at a railroad-street grade crossing for a period in excess of ten (10) minutes, except where such train, railroad car or engine cannot be moved by reason of circumstances over which the railroad employee has no control.

    Service of complaints for violation of this section and Section 51.30 shall be by personal service on the station agent whenever possible and by mailing a copy thereof to the corporate office within the State of Illinois.
