§ 6.12. Trimming or removing trees, shrubs or woody plants.

  • (a)

    No person shall, without prior written permission from the City Forester, remove, destroy, break, cut, deface, trim, injure or interfere with any tree, shrub or woody plant located on city property.

    (b)

    All persons, contractors, utilities or agents thereof shall sterilize all pruning tools used on and between all trees on the city parkways, parkways, right-of-ways and public places within the city to minimize the spread of debilitating, deforming and fatal diseases to same.

    (c)

    No person, contractor, utility or agent thereof shall use climbing irons on trees located on city property or private property for any purpose other than removal of that tree or in an emergency.

    (d)

    Any tree or limb of a tree which is dead, decaying or broken and likely to fall on or across any public way shall be removed by the owner of the premises on which such tree stands or grows. Where the owner has been properly notified of such hazard, and fails to remove same within 30 days of such notification, the city may remove same and the owner shall be liable for the city's cost for removing such hazard.
